Difference Between Accent and Ascent

There are many words in the English Language with similar spelling (or) pronunciation but having different meanings.

Meaning of Accent

a significant tone given to a particular syllable, word, or phrase

a mark used as a superscript to indicate the first derivative of a variable

  3. The writer has put the accent on the wrong syllable.

Meaning of Ascent

an upward motion

to advance (or) to upgrade

act of changing location in an upward direction

For Example:

  1. It’s more of an ascent than descent.
  2. His ascent in life is inclusive of his struggles.
  3. They cheered the ascent of the hot-air balloon.
